Indie developers are uniquely positioned to explore diverse perspectives, which gives rise to creativity, originality, variety, and freedom of idea exploration not often found at established and mainstream game studios. Focusing on more than commercially successful games, we examine the developers and games that took risks to tell a story or experience, to prove a point, to show artistic vision, or to speak to a community. In this session we showcase our chosen selection of projects in which gender, culture, personal history, and storytelling were influential towards creating meaningful and memorable game experiences.
